No Emergency Routes! Act now to secure our St. Johns community!
February 10, 2024 52By: Donna Cohen and Anisha D. B. Scanlon
Secure the match funding for the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) to apply for grants and proceed with the reconstruction of the Columbia bridges. The current PBOT budget cannot cover the estimated $57 million required for the rebuild; we need a 20% match to even apply for grants for the rest.
Our elected officials need to encourage collaboration with PBOT, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), and representatives from BNSF. This collaboration requires dedicated staff time and financial resources. We also need funds for a comprehensive feasibility study, encompassing the railroad bridge over the Lombard cut and the railroad tunnel under Lombard.
